It is dedicated to fostering positive change in society through a multi-faceted approach that encompasses climate action, women empowerment, and cultural promotion. Our vision and mission are aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our Goals

Soormiyun Cultural and Development Organization, being a women-led organization, is dedicated to empowering women by aligning its mission with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). These goals focus on achieving gender equality, empowering women and girls, promoting culture, and taking action against climate change through diverse approaches.

Soormiyun Cultural and Development Organization aims to achieve these goals through a range of gender-responsive programs, including Capacity Building, Advocacy, Campaigns, Leadership Trainings, Community Engagement, Collaborations and Partnerships, Cultural Events, Sustainable Livelihood Programs, Eco-friendly Initiatives, and Awareness Programs.

These programs and trainings contribute to a clean and green environment, help break the cycle of poverty, promote cultural diversity, empower women, increase their participation in the workforce, and drive long-term societal progress.

Chief Executive Officer / Director

Ms. Gulnaz Shaikh is a dedicated advocate for human rights, women empowerment, led a national awareness campaign climate change entitled Eco-Saheli. She is the Chief Executive Officer/ Director of Soormiyun Cultural and Development Organization, a significant platform for celebrating and preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural diversity. With over two decades of experience in the development sector, Ms. Shaikh is a seasoned professional and social entrepreneur. She embodies global citizenship, actively volunteering to address pressing issues in Pakistan. Notably, she spearheads initiatives promoting cultural diversity and leads the #Eco-Saheli campaign, empowering women to combat climate change.

Ms. Sheikh is also running an initiative named Takori Impex (SMC-PVT) Limited, a platform running Pakistani handicrafts and locally made products. Her advocacy spans climate action, women’s rights, interfaith harmony, and cultural diversity. Her profound understanding of grassroots communities inspired the creation of Takori, which economically empowers artisans from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through Takori, she facilitates access to markets for artisans across Pakistan, fostering cultural pride and economic empowerment. As a co-founder of Soormiyun, Ms. Shaikh tirelessly promotes cultural diversity and coexistence, recognizing its significance in fostering a peaceful society. Her advocacy efforts encompass human rights, gender equality, and peacebuilding, emphasizing the importance of cultural acceptance for future generations’ safety and wellbeing.

As a prolific writer and speaker, Ms. Shaikh has authored columns on various social issues and contributed significantly to uplifting underprivileged communities.

Her mobilization campaigns have garnered praise from national and international organizations, leveraging behaviour change communication to inspire communities nationwide. Ms. Shaikh’s expertise extends to organizing and facilitating training sessions, seminars, and workshops on diverse topics, including environmental policy development, women’s rights advocacy, and provincial autonomy. She actively engages with policymakers to shape pro-people policies and empower grassroots communities through village committees and skill development initiatives.
